How to do CPR on a dog, watch instruction video below. Most people who love animals are very fond of dogs and cats. But sometimes these pets need medical help and it is our responsibility to provide them with first aid until they reach the vet. In this post, I am going to tell you how to provide first aid for your dog or cat if it ever gets sick or injured.

Why is knowing how to do CPR on dog important?

🐶😍🔥➡️Who Are The 8 Most Affectionate Dog Breeds?

To begin with, I want to tell you a story. There was a man who came home from work one day and found his Labrador Retriever lying on the floor motionless. He took the dog to the vet and the vet said that the dog has a heart attack and needs an immediate operation.

But the owner was not ready to accept such a suggestion and he took the dog back to the vet and told him that he doesn’t believe in modern medicine and the vet should try some other ways to save the dog.

The vet tried some other ways and succeeded in saving the dog but unfortunately the dog was not able to walk, run, play or do anything that makes him happy. And so the owner decided to put the dog down.

But when he came home and saw his beloved pet lying on the ground motionless, he started crying and begged the vet to at least give him some sort of medication which can ease his pain. And so the vet gave him some morphine which made the dog feel better for a few minutes and then he died.

This story is true and it happened in the U.S.A. This man was very attached to his dog and he couldn’t accept that his dog is no more. This story shows how people are attached to their pets and they want them to live even after their pet has lost all hope.

Nowadays, many vets suggest that owners give their pets some type of homeopathic medicine or some herbal medicine instead of conventional medicine because it has fewer side effects. I agree with this idea, but I would like to add one thing, you should never give your pet any kind of medicine which you have not tried first on yourself. Most medicines have side effects and if you are not careful about it, it can prove fatal for your pet.

Tips to help provide first aid for your dog

Warmth

The first thing that you should do if your pet has an injury is to make him as warm as possible. Use a heating pad or hot water bottle. If you are giving him some herbal medicine then you should use a lot of it. This will make him feel warm and comfortable.

Food and Water

Next thing you should do is give him some food and water. Make sure that he gets plenty of water; it will flush out toxins from his body and also it will prevent him from getting dehydrated. Give him something like chicken or beef broth or milk. It will make him feel full and it will keep him hydrated.

Clean

Clean his wound immediately with an alcohol-based solution. Do this even if the vet has given you some medication. This will disinfect the wound and it will also stop the bleeding.

First Aid

Now that you have done the above things, you should start first aid for your pet. You should wrap a bandage around his paw to stop the bleeding and then you should put a splint on his paw to keep it straight.

After that, you should bind his chest and abdomen to prevent him from moving around too much. Do not worry if he is very sick because all of these steps will be repeated by the vet. You should take him to the vet immediately if you see him limping or unable to walk properly.
