South Carolina is searching for various rescue groups to help find homes for bigger and older dogs. A lot of shelters are getting overpacked leaving a big issue of what happens to animals after the shelters are full. Places like Best Friends Animal Society are a group that is helping these animals find homes before they are put down because of overcrowding. The society is also regionally based so you might even find one that is close to you.
- Compared to smaller dogs, larger dogs are often not adopted as quickly.
- In late January, a number of shelters and rescue organization are participating in a drive to get larger dogs adopted.
- Best Friends, Pasadena Humane, and City of Long Beach Animal Care Services are some of the groups that are participating.
“Many participants will totally waive the cost of adopting a dog that weighs 40 pounds or more, while other groups will offer discounts during the two-week happening.”
